The sustainability management handbook for managers
When the term sustainability comes up, everyone now knows what it means. But everyone has different topics, images and questions in mind. Anke Steinbach has been following the development of sustainability in companies for decades and wanted to write a guide “all you need to know about sustainability”. To help people from different backgrounds find their way through the jungle of sustainability – in terms of concepts, figures and the need for action.
And even more: to inspire change, to reflect on one’s own sphere of influence and to shape sustainability. No matter whether in the company or in the personal environment. Anke has brought together the necessary knowledge, diverse inspiration and motivation in the book “Do you speak sustainability” – and thus created this guide.
The book provides deep insights into topics such as reporting, greenwashing, meaningful work, global supply chains, certifications, key figures, and footprints. It is simply explained and attractively illustrated. Further links enable you to delve deeper into numerous topics, and toolboxes provide practical tips. In addition, each of the ten chapters concludes with suggestions for reflection and moving forward.

How this book came about…
A reference book? A management manual? Useful in practice? Concrete yet discreet? For experienced sustainability managers and executives as well as for beginners? Universally relevant and personal at the same time? Motivating, awakening, without being moralizing? Easy to read and in an appealing design?
There were many demands that the book should meet as a guide to sustainability when Anke Steinbach first formulated the idea of a book on sustainability in early 2020, shortly before the start of the coronavirus pandemic. When the first order was placed online at the beginning of 2021, the layout and editing were still in the final stages…
“Do you speak sustainability?” is a labor of love. Anke Steinbach loves to read and write. She has a passion for sustainability and transformation and has carefully designed, researched, and optimized every topic and page. Some of the figures, examples, and trends are now outdated – but many topics, content, and broad lines are still relevant.
The design and implementation came from the talented Anna Beddig from Hamburg, who normally creates very different designs and embarked on this joint adventure. Thank you for always being there!
